National Potato Day

National Potato Day

Bord Bia is celebrating National Potato Day on Friday 7th October, by enlisting the support of prize-winning chef Mark Moriarty as a new potato ambassador. He will be joining forces with current potato ambassador, TV dietitian and nutritional expert, Aoife Hearne to support the “Potatoes: More Than A Bit On The Side” campaign on www.potato.ie.

That's right, potatoes are being celebrated throughout the nation and potato.ie are fronting the spuddy frivolities right here over the weekend. Lorcan Bourke, Bord Bia's Potato Sector Manager, explains why the food has remained Ireland's favourite carb at mealtimes. He said: “National Potato Day on Friday, October 7th is an ideal time to celebrate the huge role potatoes have in Irish culture. This year’s main crop has just arrived in stores and it is important people know how to cook this naturally fat free and gluten free food.”

Be sure to participate in the celebrations in any way you can whether it be attending an event or rustling up your favourite potato dishes - check out our amazing recipe archive to get inspired! Keogh’s Farm and Country Crest are inviting families to join them on Saturday 8th October at Newbridge House & Farm, Donabate to celebrate National Potato Day with delicious spuds, sack races and family fun in appreciation of Ireland’s greatest staple food - the potato!”
